Cateye Midbike
|
The "cateye" was purchased new as a 49cc 2stroke with a single speed transmission. It had a whopping 3HP, which was probably rounded up. It stayed bone stock for such a short period of time that I don't even have a picture of it stock. I stripped it down and painted it flat black the first day I got it. Within a week or two I modified the exhaust, removed all of the electrical accessories, and added an aftermarket air filter.

It wasn't long before the frame was stripped of all unnecessary items and repainted, along with the wheels. It also got some porting, aftermarket exhaust, Walbro carburetor, boost bottle, and sprockets. Eventually the stock top end was replaced with a high compression setup and a reed cage with carbon fiber reed valves. Now the bike would do wheelies, but the single speed transmission limited the bike to low speeds. |

The best solution to this problem is of course more gears and more power. After a bit of cutting, welding, and fabricating I managed to squeze in a 70cc 4 stroke engine with a 4 stroke transmission. This solved the lack of power and speed for sure. With it's small wheelbase, this bike is hard to keep on the ground at times. I have since installed 114cc and 88cc engines into the cateye, making it even more riddiculous.
